NATIONAL FITNESS DAY LAUNCHED

The Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the National Sports Authority today launched the National Fitness Day at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium. Last year, the Ministry of Youth and Sports inaugurated an 11-member committee to carry out Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision to institute the monthly Celebration of a National Fitness Day.

The National Fitness Day will first take place on the 10th of September 2022, and it is a chance to highlight the role physical activity plays in our life. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia last year proposed a National Fitness Day to be observed every month. He charged the Minister of Youth and Sports, to institute it to become a permanent feature on the country’s sporting calendar.

The eleven-member committee which was inaugurated last year will advise the Minister of Youth and Sports on the feasibility and strategic implementation of the National Fitness Day across the 16 regions of the country. Speaking at the launch of the National Fitness day, The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif said, the fitness day is designed to promote fitness and good health among the general public and to reduce the rate of communicable diseases among Ghanaians. Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi also said, the National Fitness Day will also help improve our Performance in sports. A little demonstration of fitness was performed by the National Fitness Instructors at the event. After the Demonstration, the logo for the National Fitness Day was unveiled. The National Fitness day aims to encourage the nation to get moving and bring people together.
