Dispel claims of private company being awarded to collect levy for gov’t – Finance Ministry

Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta has hinted that, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will be responsible for the collection of the proposed Electronic levy (E-Levy) on mobile money transactions, inward remittances and ATM withdrawals.

His comment came after allegations that Government has taxed a private company to collect funds generated from the E-levy transactions.

The Ministry in a statement yesterday 13th December 2021, justified that, “GRA is the only institution to collect tax transactions from the E-Levy at a fee that will not exceed the standard cost of revenue mobilization.

“The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), as a state agency is the only institution going to provide the collection services at a fee that will not exceed the standard cost of revenue mobilisation”.

The ministry further indicated that assertions that an allocation of ¢241,933,000 under the electronic transaction levy (E-levy) in government’s 2022 budget has been removed from the final Appropriation Act are untrue and mere allegations.
