The Chairperson for Ghana’s Electoral Commission, Jean Adukwei Mensah has stated that the end results of Ghana’s 2020 General elections show that elections can be run effectively in West African countries.
She explained that Ghana’s successful election story can be an inspiration to the West African state, due to its transparency, credibility, cost-effectiveness, high turnout, and the peaceful conduct that characterize it.
Delivering a Goodwill Message at the Fifth Legislature Parliamentary Seminar of ECOWAS in Winneba on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, the Commissioner noted that despite the projection of low turn as a result of COVID-19, the commission was able to compile an entirely new Biometric Register in 38 days, of which the efficiency of their coverage in the voter registration exercise has been attested to by the recently released Ghana’s population census.
Accordingly, Commissioner disclosed that aside from its credibility and transparency, it was cost-effective, hence for the first time, the government of Ghana solely Funded the 2020 General Elections.
