Ofori-Atta should resign over Sputnik V fiasco – Akandoh

A Ranking Member on the Health Committee in Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says that calls for the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to step down is in the right direction.

According to him, the health minister should be sanctioned for releasing GHS16 million for Dubai-based Sheikh Al Maktoum. My colleague Member of Parliament must relieve himself and not be allowed to escape unpunished he added.

“He (Health Minister) is the genesis of the whole matter, so the law must take its course. What will help Ghana is what we are looking for. If a Minister who is at post tells a committee that he couldn’t think properly in the face of a pandemic that is why we have this issue at hand. So it is in his own interest to resign.”

Meanwhile, The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu is currently on a two-week leave to enable him to attend to some personal issues.
The Minority in Parliament last week called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately dismiss the Minister of Health saying he is not fit to be in office.

The Health Minister has come under intense criticism for breaching procurement processes while trying to secure Sputnik V vaccines for Ghana.

However, President Akufo-Addo has acknowledged the works of the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, amidst the pressure. He said Mr Agyeman-Manu has endured a lot of suffering to stabilise the health sector.
