Chief of Pishigu Calls for Tolerance Among Muslim Clergy in Northern Region

BY: Ibrahim Nurudeen

In recent times, some Islamic clerics from the various Islamic sects in the Northern Region verbally attack each other through their daily Preachings.

The situation is currently threatening the peace and security of the region.

Clerics from the Tijjaniya, Ahlul-Sunnah and the Shia sects through radio and at any given opportunity disprove and condemn each other’s knowledge on the teachings of Islam.

Since the beginning of this year, there has been counter debates and growing tension among the leadership and followers of the sects. Due to that, the leadership of the sects were on Friday summoned by the Northern Regional Security Council at the Regional Coordinating Council to find an amicable solution to the endless verbal attack, but the meeting ended inconclusively.

As a result, the Chief of Pishigu and former Managing Director of the Stabic Bank, Naa Alhassan Andani called for tolerance among the Muslim clergy.

Naa Andani noted that Allah’s knowledge and revelations is very vast in the Quran and no humanbeing can understand everything in the holy book, adding that the most important thing is for a Muslim to believe in the sovereign God.

Speaking to Journalists at his mini palace in Tamale, Chief Andani appealed to the clergy to soften their stands and come out with  digestible doctrines which would rather benefit their followers.

“There is no single Islamic clergy who can say he knows everything in the Quran, he can only know it to an extent , and that extent is also where someone else’s knowledge starts, so I am appealing to our clerics to help us understand the religion properly”. He pleaded.

He further charged the state authorities to make agriculture profitable and attractive, so that the citizenry especially the youth can venture into agriculture.
