The Overload of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa II has appealed to the president of the republic H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, among other challenges in the region to establish at least two teacher training colleges in the Savannah Region.
Speaking for the King of Gonja Kingdom, the secretary to the Yagbonwura, Kapori Abutu indicated that teachers in the region are professionally trained in Tamale and receive their training at Pusiga and Wa which happens to be the nearest training institutions. Mr. Kapori said education is the key to development, therefore the people of the Savannah Region need an educated and enlightened workforce to help propel the development agenda of the region.
This appeal was made when the president paid a courtesy call on the overload Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa II at his palace in Damongo yesterday.
In his response, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo assured the Chiefs and people of the Savannah Region that their request will be a subject of discussion when he returns to Accra.
Meanwhile, the president has been touring the region since Sunday to thank the people of the Savannah Region for their support during last year’s elections.
The president later on Sunday inspected some ongoing projects including the regional coordinating council administration which is about 75% complete.
