Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Mr. Okoe Vanderpuije delivering a statement on the floor of parliament on Friday, 9, July 2021, have expressed concern about the high rate of robbery attacks on mobile money vendors which he said has become risky for the business.
He indicated that armed robbers have made the mobile money service source for constant criminal attacks, for which a month doesn’t go by without an attack on Mobile Money Vendors.
Mr. Vanderpuije whiles delivering his statement disclosed that he engaged Mr. Charles Kwasi Addo, spokesperson for the Mobile Money Vendors Association, for which he described the situation as one which has caused massive and constant fear and panic in the vendors.
The Ablekuma legislator however raised concern about the poor set-up of some of these vendors which he described as the table and chair setup that cannot secure their safety. He, therefore, requested for the speaker to refer the matter to one of its committees, to look into it.
The 2nd Deputy Speaker Mr. Andrew Amoako Asiamah who was presiding at the time referred the statement to the committee of defense and interior for further investigation.
