Kofi Kinaata responds to critics who say his songwriting prowess is overrated

Four-time winner of the Songwriter of the Year award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Martin King Arthur, aka Kofi Kinaata, has responded to critics to prove his writing prowess.

He said his recent award is a clear indication that he is a good songwriter, contrary to claims by some industry players who believe that he (Kinaata) is overrated.

One such person is veteran musician Rex Omar who excluded the ‘Things fall apart’ hitmaker from his top five songwriters claiming that he was not that good a writer. According to him, the Takoradi-based artiste can be described as a good lyricist but not a good songwriter.

Kinaata said, “I believe in myself, I know myself so this is for you people so you can believe that Kofi can write songs or Kofi has good contents.

“For me I know who I am, I know I can write but this is just for you people to believe that I can write.”

Reacting to whether or not he expected to win the songwriter category for the fourth time, he said the award was a done deal because he puts in extra effort in the songs he releases.
