A person with high eye pressure condition is termed intraocular pressure which is also one cause of glaucoma, one major factor that cannot be downplayed is the hereditary factor.
Research has shown that 3 out of 10 people in every family suffer from glaucoma. Underlying health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart diseases, and sickle cell anemia are all contributing factors to glaucoma.
Unfortunately, this disease can hide in one’s system and no or very few primary symptoms may occur. Some of these symptoms are blurry visions, seeing rainbows around light, and difficulty in seeing from a distance.
Ghana has been ranked second in the world and first in Africa as the country with the highest prevalent glaucoma rate and as part of raising awareness on glaucoma.Speaking on Adoatv AM. Ghana show, Dr. Coffie who is an Ophthalmologist indicated that, every Individual Above the Age of 20 has a higher risk of getting Glaucoma.
He said, Glaucoma is treated but not cured, moreover wearing of glasses does not guarantee you from having Glaucoma.
Dr. Coffie therefore urged citizens to get their eyes checked once you above age 20.
