Ministerial appointee Ignatius Baffour-Awuah has asserted that he is heedless to the extension of maternity leave from 12 weeks to 14 weeks.
According to the Employment and Labour Relations Minister in the ongoing vetting processes, he indicated that the Employment and Labour Relations Ministry “hardly takes a decision on its own”
The International Labour Organisation Convention on Maternity Protection has proposed that maternity mothers should have their leaves extended from 12 weeks to 14 weeks.
In response to this, Baffour- Awuah disclosed that the Employment and Labour Relations sector is still in consultations with stakeholders and the tripartite body.
“Oftentimes some of these things are discussed at the tripartite level to get the buy-in of all stakeholders. “If within the constituent bodies, that is the way we should go, I don’t have any difficulty at all,”
” I am indifferent about it.” He said.
