Parliament approves Membership of Business, Appointments C’ttees on a ratio of 138:137

Parliament on Tuesday 19, January 2021 has approved a membership of the business and Appointment committee as composed based on the approved ratio of 138:137.

The report of the committee of selection chaired by the Rt. Hon. Speaker was delivered on the floor of the house by the Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.

In his report, he explained that the committee after thorough deliberations recommended; that considering the urgent need to facilitate the business of the house and that of government, the committee in the meantime composes the membership of the Business and Appointment committee to the house for approval.

Again, he noted that the two committees would work in the interim pending the passage of the reviewed Standing Orders and would stand dissolved upon coming into force of the new Standing Orders. Mr. Iddrisu iterated that per the approved ratio of 138:137 and the Convention and Practices of the House, Twenty(20)Members of the Business Committee works out to Ten(10) Members each Caucus whilst the Twenty Six(26) Members of the Appointment Committee works out to Thirteen(13) Members for each caucus.
