The Gonjaland Youth for Peace and Development have called on Chiefs, Clergy, and Opinion Leaders in the Savannah Region to advise former President John Dramani Mahama over his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 elections.
Members of the NDC in the region held a demonstration in Buipe, the Central Gonja District on Tuesday. According to our source, properties were destroyed, cars burnt; the aggrieved NDC supporters did these to register their disagreement with the presidential results. This triggered Concerned Citizens of Gonjaland Youth for Peace and Development Buipe, to organize a peace demo themed “Concede or Go To Court”.
The Peace youth group called on the NDC members across the country to halt their nationwide demonstrations and seek redress at the law court. The group urged Chief of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tutumba Boresa (I) to advise former President John Dramani Mahama to seek redress from the courts and to call his party supporters to order.
Their statement reads,
“Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Prof. Boresa Yagbonwura Tuntunba, should call one of his wayward sons to act and behave like a Gonja not like a rebel leader,” the group pleaded.
convenor of the group, Mahafuzu Ibrahim Sappor hinted, “He Should be advised to resort to using appropriate and legal means of litigating a dispute. He should immediately take advantage of the court system whilst the gates are opened”. protests held by the NDC members in parts of the country have been characterized as chaos and destruction.
