Minister for National Security Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah, in a meeting assured the leaders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of the highest level of security and professionalism from security officials during the December 7 elections.
The Ministry reassured members of the opposition party that all security officers on the day of election will have name tags on their dresses for easy identification. He further stated that a proper register of security officers will be kept for ease of reference. Also all political parties will be engaged by the elections security task force to ensure their cooperation and compliance with security arrangements for the elections. The ministry furthermore provided an overview of security threats posed by some groups along the country’s eastern corridor.
Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah emphasized on the need for transparency and continuing dialogue to build trust even as broader national security concerns are addressed. While the NDC delegation were fully supportive of the need to defend and preserve Ghana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity they shared their own perspectives and concerns about recent developments in the Volta region.
The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to maintain a conducive atmosphere for free and fair elections. Follow up meetings will be held and extended to other political parties
