Ahead of the 2020 General Elections, a joint high level Delegation from the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU) and the Economy Community Of West Africa States (ECOWAS) paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon.Shirley Ayokor .
The exclusive meeting was made up of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel, Dr.Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Representative of ECOWAS Commission In Ghana, H.E Gana Wikil, ECOWAS Commission for Political Affairs,Peace and Security, General Francis Behanzin,UN Resident Coordinator for Ghana Mr Charles Abani and UN Development programme Resident Representative,Ms Silke Hollander.
The purpose of the mission
- Develop an understanding of the view points and perspectives of Ghanaian stakeholders on political, technical, legal, security and other developments ahead of the presidential and legislative elections.
- Explore options to further support dialogue framework by Ghanaian stakeholders with a view to promoting consensus on critical issues in order to contribute to credible and peaceful elections
- Reiterate the strong support of the international community for peaceful, transparent , and credible elections The mission was made up of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Representative of ECOWAS
The meeting was geared towards developing and understanding the new point of view and perspective of the Ghanaian Stakeholders on political, technical and legislation and other development ahead of the presidential and legislation election.
