Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated government’s plan of building a new harbour and airport in Cape coast.
This was contained in the 2020 manifesto of the ruling New Patriotic Party which is currently been launched at cape coast in the central region.
The manifesto named” Transforming our progress, Transforming Ghana for all, has been grouped into three; i)Accounting for leadership
ii) Consolidation of the party’s progress and Accelerated of growth.
Government’s plan to build a new port and an airport in Cape coast was captured under Consideration of the party’s progress.
According the Dr. Bawumia this will boost economic activities within the region.
However, during the tenure of Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah as the Aviation minister on the 10th of May 2018 said, New airports are to be constructed in Ghana’s tourism hotspot, the Central Region, and the mineral-rich Western Region to boost economic activities in the two regions and further open them up for investment.
She was speaking during the maiden meeting between the Aviation Ministry and some aviation training schools in Accra.
Meanwhile, According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, there are a number of airports already established in the southern part of the country.
Not long ago, there has been incessant calls from a section of the public in cape coast for an establishment of an international airport in the central region since it’s the major destination for tourists who visits the country from abroad, this is a place which is about one hour 30 minutes from the capital, Accra where there’s a major international airport.
He said this during an exclusive interview he granted as part of his two days working visit to the central region.
