Minister of Aviation Hon. Kofi Adda have made it known that, the inability of the WA Airport to be in full operation, is as a result of eight(8) communication masts built in the airspace/approach path around the Airport, after it’s rehabilitation in 2019.
The Minister of Aviation Hon. Kofi Adda made this known on the floor of parliament on Tuesday 28th July,2020 when answering a question filed by Hon. Abdul Rashid MP for WA Central and asked by Hon Kwame Agbodza Governs on when all obstacles will be cleared from the WA Airport to enable regular flight to and from WA.
Some of these masts Hon. Adda mentioned are Ghana Broadcasting Co-operation, Radio Upper West, Poupeli FM, W95. 5 F, Vodafone and AitelTigo.
He emphatically stated that after the rehabilitation the airport was due to work and paved way for African Airlines to start operation in October 2019 but due to the mast obstacles it has been on hold.
He further stressed that on 20th January 2020 the Ghana Civil Aviation, however, sent a letter to the various companies given them a 15-day ultimatum in the interest of the safety of aircraft operation.
Yet the Minister said, none of these companies have responded to the directives.
Hence authorities are collaborating with the appropriate agencies to remove the masts and surcharge the owners but halted the operation due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Minister also indicated that another obstacle which has led to the suspension of flight operations to WA Airpirt is due to the COVID-19 and dwindling passenger numbers due to the Pandemic.
