15% increment in public transport to be reduced to 5% effective Aug. 1

A joint communique on transport fares and covid-19 protocols by road transport operators indicates that effective 1st August 2020, the 15% increase in public transport fares which took effect on 11th July 2020 has been reduced to five percent.

This according to the press release, is to accommodate the operational loses incurred during the period of the lockdown and social distancing protocols. 

All members of the various driver unions are required to comply with the revised fares and post same at their loading terminals so as to avoid confrontation with the public.

The statement further urged members, commuters and the general public to kindly cooperate for the successful implementation of the new fare, effective, August 1, 2020.

This comes after concerns were raised by individuals and some organisations to reduce transport fares as President Akufo-Addo in his 14th Address eased restrictions on the transport sector, giving clearance for commerical drivers including taxis and buses as well as trotro to resume loading to full capacity but with struct adherence to the wearing of face mask.
