The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that the Electoral Commission has the power to compile a new voter register for the December polls.
The Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in response has described as disappointing, the Supreme Court ruling that the existing voter ID card and birth certificates cannot be used as proof of identity to register in the upcoming voter registration exercise.
At a press conference on Thursday, June 25, the former president maintained that the party vehemently opposes the outcome of the case it filed at the Supreme Court.
a private citizen Mark Takyi-Banson and the opposition NDC filed the case in court asking that it stops the EC from compiling the register or allow the use of the birth certificate and voters ID card by prospective voters as proof of identification.
But the court, in its decision held that the EC is an independent body and will only be directed by the court if it acts contrary to the law.
