Our Motive Is To Defend The Constitution And Stand With Ghanaians- Minority Caucus On Division Call

The minority caucus in parliament pursuant to the approval of Parliament for the amendment of Public Elections (Regulation of Voters) (Amendment) by a 106-92 vote have stated, that the Minority could not have easily won against the amendment of the C.I.

However they took the decision and stood by it to defend the 1992 constitution as well as demonstrate their position with Ghanaians.

The request was made by the Minority leader Hon Haruna Iddrisu to the Rt. Hon. Speaker in accordance to standing order 113 (2).

The request was approved by Rt.Hon. Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye of which the division was taken and both members of parliament from each sides of the house took turns to vote.

The outcome was a 106-92 respectively and this paved way for the approval for the amendment of C.I . 126.

However, in an interview, the minority leader indicated that they knew there is no way the minority could have won, yet they took the decison to defend the 199 constitution as well as prove to Ghanaians that they (Minority) are not in support of making the Passport and Ghana Identification card the sole requirements for a new voter’s ID.

The MP for Tamale South further disclosed that come 2021 if former president John Dramani Mahama becomes president, persons who are 18yrs and above will Naturally within 100 days of his presidency will walk freely to any Electoral Commission’s office to be registered as a citizen of Ghana.
