The Minority leader Hon Haruna Iddrisu have demanded for the Minister for Finance to brief parliament earlier than later with a revised budget in accordance with the Public Financial Management Act
Contributing to the speaker of parliament’s welcome address, he noted that due to the impact of COVID-19 on the economy, the 2020 budget cannot stand the test of time.
Haruna Iddrisu further argued that the house has approved some amount of money to the Minister for Finance and accountability must be rendered.
Furthermore, the Minority leader lamented that whether Covid-19 or not election must be held hence he requested for the Electoral Commission to also brief the house with it road map towards the 2020 election.
He indicated that the minority caucus side of the house will not take any excuse from the Electoral Commission
The Majority Leader Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu while responding to the minority leader noted that indeed it is appropriate for the electoral commission to brief parliament, hence a meeting will be conducted either at the Special Budget Committee or the Committee of Whole
The Majority Leader further iterated that indeed the pandemic has affected macroeconomic all over the Globe including Ghana hence the Finance Minister will have to brief the house on it impact as well as other matters.
