The headmistress of Tema West 1&2 Day Care Center in Tema Community 2 in the Tema West Municipality has appealed for infrastructure improvement in the school to enhance academic work.
The headmistress of the school, Madam Georgina Addai Mensah speaking to UTV news said poor infrastructure had impeded the imparting of knowledge to the children who occupy two classrooms.
She disclosed that the total number of children in a combined kindergarten (KG) one and two was 103 who share only two classrooms and sometimes study under trees so that the nursery class can have a comfortable place to study. She described the situation as unfortunate.
She explained that the school has no storage facility and sometimes compel parents to fetch water from their homes for the school. It’s toilet facilities have been broken down until the intervention of the Crystal Ladies Group who took it upon themselves to renovate part of the school.
She explained that she had been at the post for about a year and she was aware of the plight of the school and that without the intervention of the Assembly and development partners, the situation would continue to affect education in the area.
The leader of the group, Joyce Adu Amaning, however, called on the government to take bold steps in addressing infrastructural challenges.
