The chairman and ranking member for the health committee Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah has called on parliament to seek justice for the community nurse who was murdered on Monday the 3rd of February 2020 at Sewua in the Ashanti Region.
The nurse, identified as Ms Ruth Ama Eshun, was found lifeless at Ayuom near Sewua in the Bosomtwe District.
The chairman of the health committee Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamahdelivering a statement on the floor of Parliament noted that the only way the nation can make health workers know their security is a priority is to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators of this gruesome act.
The Chairman indicated that 3rd February will be a black day for the Health Sector which will cause fear and panic among other nurses who will refuse to be posted these deprived urban areas
In view of this, Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah noted that the Minister for Interior be called before the floor of Parliament to brief the house on measures that are being put in place to ensure accurate security of nurses
Again he demanded that the Ghana police should ensure they put in much effort to get justice for Mrs Eshun
The ranking member of the health committee Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh also demanded that the perpetrators be allowed to face the full rigour of the law since justice delayed is justice denied
He disclosed that Mrs Eshun has left a huge vacuum not only in her family but the nation at large since she contributes massively in the daily struggle of saving lives.
Some members of parliament also contributed to the statement on the floor of the house demanding that justice is served as well as expressing their deepest condolences.
The Ghana Registered Nurses Association of Ghana has also issued a statement condemning the alleged murder, calling it “inhumane and dastardly.”
The Association has called for a speedy investigation into the death of the nurse and the perpetrators punished.
