The electoral commission cannot outsmart the inter-party resistance against the new voter register

The General Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC) Mr Mordecai Thiombiano expressed his disappointment in an interview with Reginald Robertson of Adoa TV morning show on the recent tactics the Jean Mensah led Electoral Commission is playing with the inter-party resistance against the new voter’s register.

He further said though the inter-party resistance against the new voters register earlier suspended its scheduled demonstration in Accra due to a request from his Eminence Otumfour  Osei Tutu the Asantehene for calm as they mediate the impasse.

He is disappointed at the press briefing by Electoral Commission announcing its intention to commence the registration of a new Voters register on the 18th of April, 2020 and to complete the process on the 30th of May, 2020.

He further on said that Electoral Commission ( EC)  should be mindful that without democracy there is no Electoral commission. Without political parties, there is no Electoral commission.

Though the Jean Mensah led Electoral Commission is doing the biding of her paymaster she should not compromise the peace of this country for her selfish gains.

He questions Why would the Electoral commission schedule a stakeholder consultation in the coming days between the EC’s Eminent Advisory Committee, political parties and civil society organisations who have expressed reservations with the new voters’ register now turns around to declare a date to commence and end registration process. Are they serious?

Why is the electoral commission throwing our democracy to the dogs and see nothing wrong with it?
