A 22-year-old fashion designer Kojo Kusi is being praised on Social media for designing very beautiful jerseys for the Black Stars of Ghana. Locally and internationally, he is a fan of Kotoko Fc and Chelsea Fc respectively.
In an interview with Fiifi Yeboah on OMGVoice’s he disclosed that in recent times, the Black Stars jerseys have faced severe criticisms, hence the inspiration to design a new and beautiful one. ” I have always wanted to serve my country one way or the other but I didn’t know how to go about it. So one night I thought of designing the Black Stars jersey since people always complain that our jerseys don’t connect to our flag. So I decided to spice it up from my perspective.
The home kit took less than 30 mins and the away kit took almost an hour. I’m still waiting for something to come out from it because the response from the public is wonderful “he said. He posted his works on 24 September 2019 and since then, has been shared 1400 times on Facebook with over a thousand comments and likes. He also had several mentions on Twitter by lovers of his work.
This clearly shows that people really dislike the current Puma designed jerseys of the Black Stars and are hoping for a change. The designed home kit is white in colour with horizontal red, gold, green stripes, depicting the national team flag. Also, the away jersey is designed with gold colour with cocoa beans displayed on the sleeves and the lower part of Jersey.
The design of both kits ends with the Black Stars and GFA logo across the chest area with Kojo’s brand logo being a fist of freedom. These are photoshopped images of Thomas Party and Jordan Ayew. ( the images are displayed) However, in the course of the interview, he was asked why his works were not copyrighted which could be of a disadvantage to him, he replied, ” its true but as an upcoming Designer I believe life is about taking risks and will hurt if someone grabs the idea but I’m going to keep creating”.
Being a serious, courageous and determined designer, he used a carefully planned strategical means to get his works to kits giants Puma. ” I asked for the price of a shoe on their Facebook page. So they messaged me on how to get it and that’s how I got the chance. I presented four different jerseys from four different countries, Ghana, Egypt, Ivory Coast and Senegal”.
Lest his works are approved by Puma what will be his reaction, he replied, ” it will be a dream come through. Spending 1hr 30mins just to make your dream come through is wild and satisfying “. Moreover, Kojo Kusi has also designed a jersey for his favourite club Kotoko but haven’t posted it yet. He talked about his collection named ” Wrong Crowd 19″.
” Wrong Crowd because I believe fashion designing in Ghana hasn’t been given its respectable attention hence the interest is not encouraging for designers to put in much effort when it comes to fashion. I believe in clothes so much and I see the essence of being comfortable in an outfit”.
