The Minister of interior and member of parliament for Nandam constituency, hon. Ambrose Dery has inaugurated Consultative committee members to combat drug menace in schools.
The Consultative committee which is made up of 11 members is being established in line with the objectives of the President to halt the intake and abuse of illicit drugs by the youth particularly those in the senior high schools.
The Minister addressing journalists at the inauguration ceremony said, the drug menace has become one of the serious social problems in many developing counties including Ghana and it is an undeniable fact that it has become a principal cause of abnormal behaviours on the part of the youth.
He tasked the new committee members to examine the problem of the intake and abuse of illicit drugs by the youth and submit policy proposals for combating the drugs menace.
He, therefore, urged all the members to be innovative and creative to enable the committee achieve its objectives and called for a proposal to be discussed with various stakeholders including religious bodies, civil societies, traditional authorities, education to combat the drugs menace in schools across the country.
The chairman of committee and direction of child rights international, Mr. Bright Appiah in an interview Anfrebeats.com, he added that, the committee is going have an engagement some institutions were drugs menace are mostly found to make sure they will come out accurate reports from the members to make sure drugs menace in our schools is combated.
