VIDEO: Rawlings calls for calm over Asantehene’s comment

Some political pundits have expressed their opinions on a comment made by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the just ended United Nations High-Level Forum.

The opposition National Democratic Congress party believed the comments were a diversion from the government’s failings.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said at the UN General Assembly that the Mahyhia Palace intervened “to persuade” then-President John Mahama to concede defeat in the 2016 presidential election.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has denied such claim that the Asantehene played an instrumental role before conceding defeat in the 2016 general elections.

The Former Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, has also come out with a statement that, Mr Mahama conceded defeat right after the declaration of the election result by the Electoral Commission.

He said, “I state without equivocation that the decision to concede and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo even before the official results were declared was taken by President Mahama himself without any persuasion from any quarter.”

However, Political scientist, Dr. Asa Asante, says despite the denial from the camp of former President, John Mahama, he has no reason to doubt the claims by the Asantehene over his role in the aftermath of the 2016 elections.

Meanwhile, Former President Jerry John Rawlings has also commended the Asantehene for making Ghana proud with a highly educative address to the UN on the subject of Peace.
