The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Mrs Cecilia Dapaah has paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah.
The Mayor of Accra took the minister on a tour to some places such as the Waste Department of AMA, Makola Market, Agbognloshie Market and the Jamestown slaughterhouse popularly known as Boadee.
The visit forms part of the ministry’s agenda of realising the president’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in the sub-region.
At the Jamestown slaughterhouse, the vicinity comprised of exposed animal blood and the burning of car tyres to process meat. Madam Cecilia Dapaah called on the veterinary doctor and other authorities in charge of the place to put in more efforts in ensuring proper sanitary practices on the site or risk its closure.
The minister visited other municipalities within the city including the Korley klottey Municipal Assembly and the Ayawoso West Municipal Assembly to end the day’s round of tour and advised property owners to look beyond their walls and ensure sanitation issues around their immediate environment including weeding and distilling of gutters around their properties are taken care of.
