Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah has indicated that they are putting measures in place to eliminate child labour in the country by 2025.
He said the cocoa industry has been one of the backbones of Ghana’s economy and most industry who rely on the cocoa industry must invest to eliminate Child Labour in the cocoa sector.
According to him, they want to reduce child Labour in one in every ten children and by close of 2025, they want to achieve the target in the country especially in the cocoa sector where most child Labour and forced Child Labour are found working.
Speaking at the opening of a 2-day stakeholders workshop to deliberate on Ghana’s efforts towards the elimination of child Labour and forced Child Labour especially in the cocoa sector, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah uses this opportunity to called on other industry players, stakeholders and NGO to come on board to achieve the 10% rate to eliminate child labour in the country.
The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Morrison also added that they want to eliminate child labour in the country by participating in a community dialogue in the communities to eradicate child labour in the country.
