Four hundred and fifty people have been arrested by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for flit creation and its related offences within the capital.
In a statement the AMA disclosed, the exercise took place from January to early May this year.
However, according to Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of the AMA Public Affairs;
Out of the number, 41 were arrested for lack of proper sanitary facilities within their premises.
He again noted that 57 have been prosecuted for open defecation and urinating likewise 262 has also been prosecuted during a house to house inspection by the Assembly.
Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah disclosed that, during the review exercise 81 chop bar and drinking spot operators as well as food vendors were prosecuted for operating without health certificate, while others used expired medical health certificates, lack of protective clothing for workers, not subscribing to accredited solid waste contractors, and insanitary refuse storage.
The exercise generated an amount of Seventy-Two Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty-Six Ghana Cedis (GH₵72,836) to the consolidated fund.
Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, therefore, applauded the assembly’s commitment to acting on its by-laws much particularly on that of sanitation to deter perpetrators.
He further, urged individuals to be up and doing likewise to be responsible towards the environment.
