The office of Defense and interior, together with the finance committee has signed a whopping sum of one hundred million dollars with China POLY CHANGDA ENGINEERING COMPANY LIMITED and POLY TECHNOLOGIES to complete the Military housing project for the ministry of defence.
In a report stated by the committee of defence and interior acting together with the leadership of the finance committee, which is a form of helping to solve the accommodation menace of the Ghana armed forces last Thursday.
However, Hon. Minister for defence, Mr Dominic Bingab Aduna Nitiwul presented the agreement statement to create awareness on how Ghana is building a relationship with China.
It is therefore stated in the constitution of Ghana in article 103 of the 1992 constitution and the orders 158 and 169 of the standing orders of the house (parliament), the agreement was a referee to the committee on Defense and interior together with leaders of the finance for a considerable report.
However, sitting with the leaders of the finance committee to deliberate on the agreement with the Minister for Defense, Hon Major (RTD)Derek Oduro as well as officials from the ministry of defence and Ghana Armed forces.
According to the committee, they are so much grateful to the Honorable Minister for Defense and his deputy, liaison with officials for attending upon the committee, nevertheless, the accommodation has become a burden in the Ghana armed forces.
He further stated that,
|“in June 2017 the president cut the sod for the construction of new accommodation for the Ghana armed forces to enhance their standard of living at the barracks but to no avail. Many times, new officers of ranks are being enlisted every year which also become a situation where senior officers including major and lieutenant colonel are living in a single room which is designed for young and unmarried officers. The government formulate this project to address the challenges, he stated”.|
Moreover, the constitution of the agreement would help in the construction of aircraft hangers at Tamale and Takoradi aircraft Bases, the construction of the Ghana armed forces integrity savings and loans company office, accommodation of troops and new military cemetery at Burma camp among others.
In addition, the main purpose of the project is to provide the GAF with descent and modern accommodation to enable the armed forces to work functionally to defend the territorial integrity of Ghana.
Mr Dominic Bigarb concluded by saying that it will help curb the wrong classification of Dormitories, despite resolutions the fund of the project would be implemented with funds from the contractors without a Government of Ghana counterpart funding.
