President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah and his executive committee are calling on Government to investigate the conduct of Prof. Emmanuel Abakah on the UEW Council. Likewise they are calling on the Commission on human right and administrative justice (CHRAJ) to equally investigate into a conflict of interest against the Chairman of the Governing council Prof. Emmanuel Abakah.
According to the committee, the circumstances for which Prof. Emmanuel was promoted is not acceptable.
In a press conference, the committee sighted that, “Prof. Abakah was a former Pro Vice Chancellor of UEW, retired in 2014 and left the university under the previous administration with so much bitterness, therefore, he should have honorably declined acceptance to the position of council chairman because of the existence of a potential conflict of interest which has clearly been actualized”.
However, according to the UTAG, the governing council chair used his position to award himself the promotion of professorship and asked for the resignation of Prof. Rev Afful Broni and he Council Chairman. Prof. Emmanuel Abakah.
He also urges the Governing Council of UEW to be up and doing to resolve the situation at UEW.
