This write-up complements previous releases by the SRC board and the GRASAG Executive Committee of UEW, who have categorically stated their displeasure and disassociation from ‘the so called students’ demonstration’.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of University of Education Winneba (UEW), Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni (PhD) had always stood his grounds in the fight against corruption by advocating hard work and the development of laws, policies and institutions to effectively deter, detect and punish corruption. It is obvious that many people wouldn’t feel comfortable with his administration since they grew, worked and are used to corrupt ways of doing things.
In the nut shell, it is evidently clear that the perpetrators themselves are aware of the worth and moral values of this anti-corrupt leader, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni (PhD) and therefore have decided to take him off through all violent means in order for them to get access and embezzle funds. They know that sending him to court, they wouldn’t succeed with their selfish ambition so they resorted to violence and deliberate destructions.
Whiles school management puts up measures to ensure academic and moral development of students in UEW (prospective teachers), these students rather had the guts to destroy these infrastructures in the name of demonstration. What kind of students are these???
If these students who embarked on this so called demonstration had reasoned enough, they wouldn’t have allowed themselves to be used by some group of people who are only interested in their selfish gains and political power.
Following the lines of accusations, and the cases that the demonstrators, laid against the VC, it clearly shows that they were being manipulated. Besides, the charges do not warrant rational students to call for demonstration.
None of these accusations seems to have an impact on the welfare of the students, the staff and above all the development of the university.
It wasn’t that there weren’t effective lectures, lectures were smoothly and peacefully in progress and the students (destructors) had to end them
Why are they not talking about infrastructural developments?
This VC also a Priest in this high office is really working diligently and is not kowtowing to the popular Ghanaian adage and corrupt way of doing things; the ‘who knows you’ favor and consideration. If he could stand on the set rules to reject the protocol lists of his close associates like Mr. Alex Afenyo Markin (the MP of Effutu Municipality, who was by his side in His first world war), then we don’t need Jesus to come from Heaven to tell us that this is the type of leader we need. He is firm and fair, very principled with high religious standings. I wish all our institutional leaders will be true men of God like this man. His ordeal today shows that he is really following the footsteps of Christ as a Christian. You are making the Roman Catholics proud, this is what the church’s virtues teaches us; the Holy Saints followed these steps and we now emulate their way of life.
May God grant you strength to execute your duties to please Him and not please Mr. Afenyo Markin and some selfish individuals.
Long live Ghana, Corruption will soon be reduced, if not eradicated.
